WiR awards first Bursary

Chair of the WiR Bursary Programme Julia Deadman (pictured left) was very pleased to present a cheque for £1,000 to the programme's first recipient Elizabeth Bushe at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales, Book 1.

Elizabeth, who rides out for Newmarket trainer Don Cantilon, will use the funds to subsidise her distance learning of a Horseracing Industry foundation degree at Warwickshire College of Agriculture.

Elizabeth said: "Thank you to Women in Racing for generous Bursary Award. It is a fantastic leg up to help me develop my knowledge of the business of horseracing and hopefully move into a career at racecourse level following completion of my studies."

Julia commented: "Elizabeth is a deserving candidate – bright, enthusiastic and very complimentary about WiR. We are always willing to consider applications from any members looking to enhance their career within horseracing."
