We have chosen The British Horseracing Education and Standards Trust (BHEST) as our first Charity Partner.

The face of British horseracing

BHEST is a registered charity and government recognised Awarding Body for a range or qualifications in the racing, breeding, equine and farriery industries that provide the practical grounding for people to build careers and businesses in British horseracing.

BHEST is also responsible for developing and delivering horseracing’s free education programme, Racing to School. The scheme is designed to support and enrich children's learning through activities based on the National Curriculum, at the same time introducing young people to the thrills of racing as a leisure activity or a possible future career.

To date over 60,000 children have participated in the programme at more than 55 racecourses across the country. The programme bring lessons to life by giving pupils the opportunity to learn in a new and exciting environment, and to experience the practical application of school subjects such as maths, science, literacy and business studies.

The quotes below illustrate the positive impact the programme has on pupils and staff alike:

"I really enjoyed the day and felt like a VIP as I got to go places ordinary watchers couldn’t."
(Kirsty,12)
"I thought that horseracing was a boring sport before today. Today has made me think of horseracing as an interesting sport, thank you."
(Jade, 13, Abbeyfield)
"My opinion of horseracing is more positive having been exposed to the enthusiasm and commitment of the people involved and the opportunity to see the infrastructure and range of skills required. The industry is investing in education in its widest sense." (Mrs Ryall – Forest School, Wokingham)

"This was one of the best activities for maths I have ever been on with students because they saw
its relevance and application in a real life setting." (Tony Loughlin, teacher, Longford Community School)

As its vision is aligned with our own, we believe BHEST is a worthy cause.
