Jockeys' coach sorry for "women can't ride" comment

WiR's Chair, Sally Rowley-Williams, was part of the first of a series of BBC programmes for Women's Sport Week that kicked off with Irish Grand National winning jockey Katie Walsh exploring the issue of gender equality in racing.

In the same programme Katie interviewed jockey coach Michael Tebbutt at the British Racing School in Newmarket.

Comments made during the interview caused a great deal of concern within Women in Racing. You can watch the programme, which is otherwise very informative and positive, on the BBC Sport website.

WiR welcome Michael's apology for his remarks that have since been reported in the Guardian and Racing Post.

Read Women in Racing's statement.
