The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) is the governing body of what many consider to be the best horseracing in the world.  It is responsible for promoting, representing and regulating the sport, which is at the heart of a major leisure and entertainment sector, a leading betting product and the focus of an important breeding sector.

The BHA formed and lead the establishment of British Racing’s first Diversity In Racing Steering Group,  prompted both by the findings of research by the Oxford Brookes University’s Centre for Diversity Policy Research and Practice and the needs of industry strategy which recognises the need to broaden British Racing’s appeal.

This is a challenging and exciting new industry focused position, the remit will be to champion diversity and inclusion in British Racing, to gain commitment from stakeholders and participants.

You will be accountable to the Diversity In Racing Steering group, report to BHA Chief Executive liaising with BHA leaders, trade associations and participants throughout Racing.  You will have the ability to challenge and support change across the sport. The role objective is to bring about a far more diverse and inclusive sport for the 85,000 people directly or indirectly employed across the sport, and assisting to ensure British Racing can attract and appeal to the widest group of participants and fans in the future.

Championing diversity and inclusion in our sport you will be able to demonstrate a competent knowledge of latest policy and practical actions being deployed in industry or sport.  You should have ability to lead and coordinate the delivery of an ambitious plan, proven experience in moving agenda’s forward with enthusiasm while managing associated budgets and resources and delivering timely progress.  The role will also be responsible for coordinating and securing funding to support plan activities.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience in similar roles, have strong influencing and interpersonal skills, a proven ability to work successfully in partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders and success in making change happen.  As an ambassador and spokesperson you will need to be diplomatic, have a dynamic leadership style and high level of integrity.
